Genuine Hewland reverse idler gear for the LD200 (LD200 / LD5-200) gearbox. This is the intermediate gear that sits between the layshaft reverse gear and the reverse output, reversing the direction of drive so the car can back up. When the driver selects reverse, the idler is the gear that meshes into the reverse train — making it a wear and crash-repair item that’s well worth keeping on the shelf during a rebuild.

The Hewland LD200 was designed in the late 1980s to replace the earlier VW-based Mk-series gearboxes in small formula cars and sports racers. Its purpose-designed main case did away with many of the compromises of the production-based Mk cases, and it went on to become the standard transmission on most British Formula Ford 1600 and Formula Ford 2000 cars from the early 1990s onward — available in both 4-speed and 5-speed configurations. The LD200 remains one of the most common gearboxes in club and historic formula racing today, so genuine service parts are in constant demand.
Note: the LD200 reverse idler is specific to the LD200 gearbox and is not interchangeable with the Mk-series / Formula Mazda reverse idler (Hewland HC2371). Confirm you are servicing an LD200 box before ordering.
