When a rod end or spherical bearing is mounted in single shear and is not positively retained by the surrounding structure, most sanctioning bodies require large-diameter retainer washers to prevent loss of control in case the ball or race separates from the housing. Plain flat "fender" washers are large enough, but they restrict the motion of the bearing. The washer needs a bevel to allow full freedom of movement at the joint.
Our Safety Retainer Washers are specially machined just for this purpose. These plated steel washers have a 45 degree bevel for unrestricted motion, with an integrated large-diameter washer portion for safety. We offer SAE bore sizes of #10 (0.19") through 5/8 inch and metric bore sizes of 8mm to 16mm.
* The outside diameter is sized to be greater than the bearing race diameter of most standard bearings. However, it is up to the installer to make sure that the washer diameter exceeds the race diameter of the actual bearing used in the application.
