updated van diemen steering column mount which offers better steering input and better quality
bearing then offered in original mechanism
The original steering shaft support on 1998 and later Van Diemen chassis uses a very loose split race bearing. The excessive play in the stock part leads to a sloppy steering feel as well as premature wear. This beautifully machined aluminum support replaces the original part with a high-quality, PTFE-lined spherical bearing for smooth steering operation with no freeplay. The black anodized bracket includes a 7/8" bore bearing. Requires no modifications to the chassis.Note 1: The OD of the original Van Diemen steering shaft can vary by +/- 0.001". If your steering shaft is slightly oversized, a light polish with an abrasive pad will allow it to slip into the new bearing.Note 2: Once your steering shaft is fitted to the bearing, use a drop of loctite 609 (Part No. LT-60921, sold separately) to prevent the shaft from rotating inside the bearing and grinding on the shaft OD. Failure to do this could eventually cause a loose fit in the bearing and excessive play.
